A Taste Of The World 2010 & Photos
A Taste Of The World 2010 & Photos
Queens Leading Culinary Event Feeds Hundreds
May 18, 2010 / Flushing / Queens Buzz. Queens leading culinary event happened last night at Caesar's Club in CitiField in Flushing in spite of a very dark wet drizzly evening. Hundreds of people came from around the borough to sample the food and beverages provided by some 30 or more vendors.
We found a wide variety of cuisines to sample, and in the process learned a bit more about the culinary history of the borough. Two businesses received awards for serving the community for 80 and 50 years. These businesses continue to this day and were successfully handed from one generation down to the next. Photos Of Chinese New Years Parade In Flushing Queens
Flushing / February 20, 2010. This story includes our report and photos of the Chinese New Year Parade in Flushing in 2010. The weather was near perfect for a mid February parade, as it was sunny and dry, and the temperatures were in the low forties. Photos of the Chinese New Year Parade in Flushing Queens include a mix of photos of the costumed parade participants as well as the large crowd.
We estimate that over 10,000 people came out to see the Chinese New Year cultural extravaganza in Flushing. The parade was followed by a number of cultural events given by both traditional Chinese and Korean performers.

Flushing & Corona News Briefs - Queens NY
Queens History Is America's History
Flushing Neighborhood / December 13, 2009. My compliments to the six cultural and historic sites that participated in the annual Historic Holiday House Tour. On a rainy, but unseasonably warm Sunday, I traipsed through the streets of Flushing with historian Jason Antos visiting some of the most interesting historic sites in Queens. Each of these sites entertained visitors in different ways, from traditional apple cider, to old fashioned holiday songs with piano accompaniment, to a five piece jazz band [see photo].
The historic sites were fascinating and included two houses associated with religious freedom in America; one house associated with a talented nineteenth century African American inventor who was involved with patents for the lightbulb and the telephone and whose parents were instrumental in galvanizing support for the freedom of slaves; a beautiful well preserved Victorian era home; one of Queens important cultural centers; and the home of the Queens Historical Society - sponsor of the event.

Waterpod Floating Barge - Flushing Harbor Flushing Queens NY
Waterpod: A Good Idea That Floats
Flushing / September 26, 2009. Today, amidst all the reasons for cynicism and despair, I found a refreshing glimmer of hope in, of all things, a waterpod. It's a waterpod that contains within it a couple of beings, which if properly funded could spread a good idea like appleseeds across the land, perhaps the globe, and enable all of us to help shape the future of the world in which we live.
Mary Mattingly and Ian Daniel are modern day, Ghandi-like activistics. They have guided the good ship Waterpod into and out of eight different harbors along the New York City network of waterways, carrying with them an art performance eco-friendly message that makes a huge statement in very small ways ... but in every moment of each one of their days.

Bikes & Bike Riding - Tour De Queens NY
Tour De Queens 2009 Photos Of Riders
Flushing Queens / July 12, 2009. The second annual Tour De Queens departed on time today at 9.30 am for an 18 mile ride through the borough [the original plan was for a 24 mile course]. We'll be posting a photo album later today with tons of photos taken of the riders as they departed from the Queens Museum Of Art in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The winds were blowing at between five and ten miles per hour which cooled things down, as the temperatures rose into the low eighties on a moderately humid day. Originally the course was to be outlined within the New York Panorama inside the Queens Museum Of Art as had been done last year. But given the current exhibition, Red Lines Housing Crisis, was already using the panaorama as part of the exhibit, outlining the course for the Tour De Queens was dropped. The course was finalized late Friday July 10th, but we are in the process of creating a map of it, so stay tuned. A Taste Of The World Queens - Citi Field Flushing NY A Taste Of The World In Queens
Flushing / April 21, 2009. We had the opportunity to cover 'A Taste Of The World' at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Unfortunately we were confined to Caesar's Club which is the new bar and restaurant on the fifth floor of the complex, so this report will include only a small update on the new stadium.
Sixty restaurants were included in the event, all of which were from a section of Queens. We sampled a number of their offerings and we'll provide a full review in the Restaurants section sometime this weekend or early next week. In the meantime, click this link for a very sketchy first draft of A Taste Of The World in Queens at Citi Field in Flushing NY.

Flushing / Corona Queens. This is the Flushing Neighborhood / Corona Neighborhood section of this site which contains news and information about events, attractions restaurants, shopping and more. Flushing has seen an influx of investment in buildings, including high rise retail and office space. It's also worth noting that in 2009 Shea Stadium was replaced by a brand new stadium CitiField and the city's largest swimming facility [complete with new year round ice rink] was opened in that same year.
