Last year they moved the Macy's 4th of July fireworks to the Hudson River on Manhattan's west side claiming they'd moved it to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's discovery of the river. I guess this year they're commemorating the 401st year of his discovery.

No Macy's July 4th Fireworks In Queens 2010. The bottom line is, that for the second year in a row, there won't be any Macy's NYC 4th of July fireworks in Queens along the East River.

New York City / November 26, 2009. We regret to inform you that there has been a serious catastrophic incident which occurred at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. Had we not witnessed this ourselves, you would likely not even hear about this. It is believed that unnamed government officials and quite possibly the event sponsors are trying to cover up this huge public relations snafu as it could mean the end of the parade as we know it. Queens NY Election Results

Queens Neighborhoods / November 3, 2009. Michael Bloomberg won his re-election bid for mayor with a bit over 50% of the votes vs 46% of the votes for William Thompson Jr. Bloomberg broke U.S. history records by spending between $90 - $100 million of his own money on the campaign, outspending his opponent 14 to 1.

In other city wide offices, Queens resident John Liu (D) won the Comptroller's office with 76% of the votes. Meanwhile, Helen Marshall (D) cruised to an easy election victory as the Queens Borough president, beating Robert Hornak by a margin of 76% vs 20% of the votes, respectively. The winners of the remainder of the Queens city council races by district were as follows: 19th - Daniel Halloran III (R) 53%, 20th - Peter Koo (R) 50%, 21st - Julissa Ferraras (D) unopposed, 22nd - Peter Vallone Jr. (D) 75%, 23rd - Mark Weprin (D) 67%, 24th - James Gennaro (D) unopposed, 25th - Daniel Dromm (D) 76%, 26th - James Van Bramer 70%, 27th - LeRoy Comrie Jr (D) unopposed, 28th - Thomas White Jr (D) 88%, 29th - Karen Koslowitz (D) 63%, 30th - Elizabeth Crowley (D) 59%, 31st - James Sanders Jr (D) 89% and Eric Ulrich (R) 59%. Halloween Parties - Queens 2009

Queens / October 26, 2009. Boo. Yes, the fun, scary holiday of Halloween is here again. When the ghouls and goblins return to trick us if we don’t treat them. The holiday originated in Ireland, apparently hundreds of years ago to celebrate the end of the growing season. It was believed that during this time, both good and bad spirits were able to permeate the ether more easily than any other time of year. Hence people dressed in costumes, which made them appear scary, so that the harmful spirits would leave them alone.

So what are you planning to do for Halloween? This year Halloween in Queens falls on a Saturday which will last 25 hours since the end of Daylight Savings time occurs at 2 am on Sunday November 1 [remember to set your clocks back one hour]. Supreme Court Re-writes Constitution

Gives Legal Entities Rights To Meddle In Electoral Process

Queens / January 21, 2010. This is an opinion piece about the Supreme Court campaign finance ruling in favor of giving legal entities the right to spend unlimited sums of money in support of political candidates. Our opinion is that legal entities should not be allowed to spend any resource whatsoever in support of a political candidate.

If the people governing a legal entity [regardless of whether it is a corporation or a labor union] want to donate money or resource to a candidate, let them do so as individuals.  But disallow them from reaching into the pockets of their shareholders, employees or membership to further their own special interests.  Let these people [shareholders, employees and members] speak for themselves.

We compare this ruling to what happens in the book 'Animal Farm' written by author George Orwell in the middle of the 20th century, whereby some of the pigs in the book are made more equal than others.  Our argument is that these people already have too much power vis a vis everyone else, and their unchecked influence will be harmful to the republic.
